PM comments suggest gas hike for Armenia

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan says an agreement should be reached by year's end on how much Armenians will have to pay for Russian gas.

In guarded comments to Interfax news agency, the PM did not speculate on specific prices, but said tariffs "cannot stay fixed forever" and that prices will reflect the world market.

As Armenia expects to pay higher prices when a new contract is settled, the prime minister said he does not want to "send pessimistic impulses to our society", and said agreements will depend on global influences.
