Zhoghovurd: Today marks 13 years since October 27 parliament tragedy

Today marks the 13th anniversary of the 1999 terrorist act in Armenia's National assembly, which claimed the lives of the then parliament speaker, Karen Demirchyan, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, as well as two deputy speakers and three MPs and a deputy prime minister.
"It should be noted with regret that 13 years after the atrocious crime no answer has been given to the main questions – who stood behind Nayiri Hunanyan (a former journalist who led a group of five gunmen to attack the parliament on October 27, 1999), and why the National Security Council, which was then headed by Serzh Sargsyan, was unaware of and unable to prevent the plot," says the paper, adding that those questions will remain unanswered as long as the state is governed by people who strengthened their power after the tragedy.
