High-ranking servicemen, representatives of various political forces, civil activists, and caring citizens came to the funeral of 33-year-old military doctor Vahe Avetyan, head of ENT (ear-nose-throat) department at the Defense Ministry's Yerevan garrison hospital.

On July 17, Avetyan and his three friends, also army doctors, were subjected to brutal physical abuse at Harsnakar restaurant belonging to Republican MP Ruben Hayrapetyan, president of Armenia's Football Federation. After a 12-day fight for his life Avetyan did not regain consciousness and died in hospital on July 29.

The young doctor was buried at Zeytun civilian cemetery under the accompaniment of the national anthem of Armenia and a gunfire salute.

Avetyan's mother refused the defense ministry's offer to bury him at Yerablur pantheon for war heroes and servicemen.
