Price of European integration: EU expects from Armenia transparent elections, reforms, concessions on Karabakh

Observers increasingly see a tendency of European institutions encouraging Armenia's European integration effort, at the same time setting at times very difficult conditions to President Serzh Sargsyan connected with democratic reforms or the Karabakh settlement.

The Armenian leader was in Brussels on June 27-28 and during his visit to the political capital of united Europe he also met with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.

After the meeting, Ashton issued a statement in which she welcomed the efforts of the Armenian authorities aimed at holding more transparent and competitive elections, but stressed the need to pay attention to a number of issues, in particular, the report published by the observation mission of the OSCE/ODIHR.  Read more...
