Former rector of Yerevan Linguistic University Suren Zolyan said his lawsuit against the Education and Science Ministry is in the limelight of international establishments.
According to him, though, Armenia has made an attempt to distort the details over the issue.
"The international establishments could not have ignored the lawsuit but an attempt to distort the case was made from Armenia. During an unofficial meeting with the employees of the Expert Committee of the European Charter the rector's removal was presented as having no connection with the plenary session but being a political issue connected with elections. As a proof they have presented a quotation from a newspaper," he said.
With his lawsuit Suren Zolyan seeks annulment of two decrees of education minister Armen Ashotyan – with one he gave strict reprimand to the rector, with the other sacked him.
Zolyan said being an independent body, the Expert Committee of the European Charter convened a sitting on the basis of his application and gave its conclusion. According to the former rector, he did not attend the sitting stemming from rules which was registered in the written conclusion to be submitted to the court.
The Expert Committee has sent its decision, stressing that it attaches significance to the independence of the Committee members from their governments while implementing their duties, thus considered any political pressure by authorities inadmissible.
Zolyan also noted that yesterday he was in Strasburg where he stated that there is no political motivation, it is just revenge.
