Armenia's Ambassador to Tehran Girgor Arakelyan has called on Iran and Armenia to remove visa requirements between the neighboring countries.
On a visit to northwestern Iran on Sunday, Arakelyan stated his hopes for the visa regime to be done away with, as a means of developing cross-border travel and trade, which has been on the increase for the recent several years, according to the Iranian Fars news agency.
The ambassador also said that a joint-economic cooperation commission will be created.
Cultural and economic ties between Armenia and Iran have been strengthened, due in part to the creation in the past five years of a gas pipeline that spans the countries' borders.
