Republican MP calls for amending state of emergency law

A lawmaker of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Rafik Petrosyan, says he will not back the bill on the Legal Regime of State of Emergencies in the second reading unless the document undergoes amendments.

At a debate with Aghasi Ayvazyan, a former member of the National Unity party faction in parliamenrt, Petrosyan said he is against the military’s intervention in emergencies.

“I am in favor of the law, but it contains a clause calling for an army intervention in demonstrations. The military cannot be a tool for a political force,” he said.
