roup of people in Turkish society used to take pride in recounting stories about how their ancestors massacred the impious, Turkish studies specialist Ruben Melkonyan says.
In an interview with Tert.am, Melkonyan said Turks us the so-called oral history to tell their generations stories about Turks who massacred giaours.
He referred to notes about a middle-aged Turkish man who recalled how people in his native village would gather on the village square in evenings to listen to stories about brutalities against giaours. He said the man remembered village children being impressed by the stories and inspired to continue the footsteps of their ancestors.
According to Melkonyan, the oral history and tales have a stronger impact on the Turkish society than academic education.
