Foreign Ministry of France deplores Armenian-Azerbaijani brawl in parliament

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France regrets and condemns the clash that recently occurred between Armenians and Azeris at the French National Assembly building during an event commemorating victims of ethnic attacks in Azerbaijan.

The incident occurred on February 26 when the French-Armenian community and several French MPs held in an event in connection with the 25th anniversary of the Armenian pogroms in Sumgait that came as a response from Azeri nationalists to the demands of Karabakh Armenians for reunification with Armenia.

A group of Azerbaijanis who were present in the National Assembly building that day reportedly tried to disrupt it by refusing to observe a minute's silence to honor the memory of the pogrom victims. Furthermore, they said they would only commemorate the victims of the massacre in Khojalu in Karabakh that Azerbaijan claims was committed by advancing Armenian troops.
