Deputy head of Armenia's National Security Service Felix Tsolakyan has been appointed Shirak's governor at the cabinet sitting today.
Ex governor of the province Ashot Giziryan submitted resignation application to the PM on February 22. The executive has approved the application on February 28.
According to circulating information, Giziryan resigned after the incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan's defeat in his province, and stated that he considers it his defeat as well.
Earlier the PM said he had met with Giziryan and got convinced that the resignation was his initiative.
"It is a very important circumstance as different information is being spread that has nothing to do with reality," the PM said, expressing gratitude to the former governor for the implemented work.
