Current deputy chief of the National Security Service (NSS) Felix Tsolakyan has been appointed governor of the Shirak province of Armenia.
Such a decision was made by the Armenian government on Thursday.
Tsolakyan is succeeding Ashot Giziryan, whose resignation was accepted last week. Giziryan's resignation is linked by many to the defeat suffered by presidential candidate and incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan in the city of Gyumri, the provincial center, in the February 18 presidential election.
Tsolakyan was appointed deputy chief of the NSS in 2009; he has served in the rank of lieutenant-general.
