Hraparak: Prosperous Armenia split?

le=”text-align: justify; “>Talks about two wings within the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) are getting plainer.

The first, soft-liner, wing is led by PAP Chairman Gagik Tsarukyan. It is ready to accept the rules set by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). The second, more radical, is being steered by Armenia’s ex-president Robert Kocharyan, is a hard-liner.

Vartan Oskanian is a member of the second wing, and some want to “appoint” him PAP chairman after the elections. The major argument is that he is a political figure and his appointment as PAP chairman may settle numerous problems. Specifically, the forces outside Armenia will view the party as an “acceptable force,” and its ratings will rise. As its optimum target this wing is discussing the idea of nominating Vartan Oskanian as a presidential candidate.
