Yerevan Municipality to restore underground passage in capital=?UTF-8?B?4oCZ?=s Grigor Lusavorich street (photos)

Arthur Gevorgyan, head of Yerevan municipality's public relations department, assures that the underground passage of capital's Grigor Lusavorish street will be renovated but did not mention the exact date.

The underground passage is in very bad condition.

Gevorgyan said the right way to solve the underground passage issue in Yerevan is to hand it for private sector's management what the municipality is trying to do currently.

"We are periodically cleaning it, ensure illumination, restore the stairs but in two days the territory becomes dirty and damaged while the private sector takes commitment to keep the territory clean and ensure illumination permanently, otherwise the budget means will be spent but no result will be ensured," he said.

As to Tert.am's observation that after the underground passage of Khanjyan street has been handed to the private sector, boutiques have been placed there and the territory has become very narrow, Gevorgyan said in any case it is the only way to keep them clean.

"People prefer a narrower territory with boutiques to a dirty and dark passages. The experience shows that we can have them clean and illustrated only by handing to private sector. Do you remember the Khanjyan street passage before and what it has become now?" he said.
