According to a report in today's Cyprus Mail, former U.S. diplomat Matthew Bryza called on Ankara to strike a "grand bargain" with Cyprus, lifting its claim on the island in exchange for transferring Cypriot gas to Europe via Turkey.
Bryza was quoted making the statement by Hurriyet Daily News during a roundtable discussion organized by Turkish Policy Quarterly.
Bryza spent over five years as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs and was later appointed U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan. He lefty the diplomatic service altogether after the Senate failed to confirm the nomination.
