MP responds to Armenian premier

Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan's statement that the signature by the former coalition government, including the signature by Gagik Tsarukyan, Chairman of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), which show the intention to defend incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan in the 2013 presidential election, remain in force is the same as to say that the Treaty of Sèvres remains in force."If we follow Tigran Sargsyan's logic, we can say that he remains a member of the National Democratic Union (NDU) and must support NDU leader Vazgen Manukyan's candidacy," Naira Zohrabyan, Secretary of the PAP parliamentary group, said at a press briefing in Armenia's parliament.According to her, the PAP must have a presidential candidate, and the PAP leader is this candidate.Vahe Hovhannisyan, a PAP group member, noted that it is other political parties rather than the PAP that are discussing the issue of memorandum.According to him, the moment the PAP refused to join the ruling co alition the memorandum turned into a merely historical document. The MPs also commented on the government-submitted bill on an AMD 2,500 (about $6) increase in minimum monthly wages, which was approved by Armenia's parliament in the first reading. The bill was totally unacceptable to the PAP, but the PAP group abstained from voting as it considered the moral aspect of the issue. "Because the situation in the country is so grave that this small sum may prove daily bread for tens of thousands of families," Mrs Zohrabyan said.
