Syrian-Armenians have to be cautious, says expert

The Armenian population of Syria has to be cautious and maintain its neutrality to avoid any involvement in the current military operations, Sargis Grigoryan, an expert in Arab studies has warned.
At a news conference on Saturday, the expert characterized the Syrian opposition's threatening statement against the Armenian community as an attempt to incite the community to the armed clashes.
"This demonstrates that there is no unanimity inside the opposition. So the Armenian community has to be cautious and maintain its neutral stance," he said.
Asked who could benefit from such a statement, the expert pointed out to Turkey, noting that the Syrian opposition receives financial assistance from that country as well.
According to him, the fight between Syria's regime and anti-government forces may have a long run, with the opposition not being united around a single leader representing their common goals."The opposition never managed to attract the masses residing in large cities – Damascus and Aleppo – to its side. The society did not intervene in the conflict, so it will not be easy to reach any success," he said.
