More Harsnakar protests: Police stop demonstrators from approaching restaurant

Police set up cordons to prevent another action of protest near a Yerevan restaurant that was a scene of deadly beating of an Armenian army doctor last month.

A few hundred activists angered by the incident that resulted in the death of Vahe Avetyan allegedly caused by one of the bodyguards of tycoon Ruben Hayrapetyan, whose family owns the Harsnakar complex, headed to the restaurant on Sunday night to stage another candlelight vigil there in memory of the killed officer.

The death of 33-year-old Avetyan, a father of two, in hospital 12 days after the brutal beating, caused widespread civil protests and led to Hayrapetyan's resignation as lawmaker last week. The affluent businessman who holds sway in the northeastern Yerevan suburb of Avan, where the incident took place, denies any direct responsibility for the incident, though.
