Turkish court passes another sentence on Dink assassin

The Turkish ultra-nationalist, who gunned down Hrant Dink, the editor-in-chief of the Turkish-Armenian weekly Agos, has now been convicted of threatening the assassinated journalist's brother.

A Turkish court has ruled to impose a fine of 600 Turkish Liras (about $330) on Ogun Samast, according to Tert.am.

The jailed activist did not attend the hearing. Instead, his lawyer, Levent Yildirim, presented his interests in court. Attorney Aysenur Demikale acted on behalf of the claimant, Khosrov Dink.

Considering Samast's circumstances, the judge decided to give him time, but he ruled out any possibility of abating the penalty.

The ruling may be replaced by extended imprisonment in case the convict proves incapable of paying the sum.
Hrant Dink was assassinated on January 17, 2007 outside his office in Istanbul.
