On Stand-by: Russia increases military presence in the region, doubles contract personnel of base in Gyumri

Russia is increasing its military presence in the highlight of escalated tensions in the Karabakh conflict zone, as well as the limbo the Iranian issue is in, plus the civil war in Syria.

The aviation personnel of the Russian military base located in Armenia have taken around 300 practice flights since the beginning of this year, having increased the total flight hours by 20 percent as compared to 2011.

Colonel Igor Gorbul, head of the Southern Military District's press office, said on June 19 that "the number of servicemen-contractors of the military base in Armenia will be doubled by the end of 2012".  Read more... (436 words)
