In the next five years Armenia expects to double its official minimum wage of 32,500 drams (about $80), according to a new government plan unveiled this week.
The program of the new Cabinet of Ministers formed late last week by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) that swept the May parliamentary elections and its junior coalition partner, Orinats Yerkir, is to go to the National Assembly later this week for an approval vote that will also be viewed as a vote of confidence in the government.
It is expected to meet no obstacles in the RPA-dominated parliament in terms of the vote procedure, but is likely to draw criticism from opposition factions.
