MP: Armenia to introduce mandatory health insurance

Armenia will introduce mandatory health insurance during the next five years, according to a senior pro-government MP.

Ara Babloyan, who heads the National Assembly's standing committee on healthcare, maternity and childhood issues said at a press conference on Thursday that the program will be installed gradually.

First, state agencies will be involved, with the following inclusion of the private sector, the lawmaker said, as quoted by News.am.

Babloyan said it won't become an additional financial burden for citizens as the companies will cover over 70 percent of medical insurance costs. He also voiced an opinion that with medical services getting increasingly expensive, they will become simply unaffordable for many citizens unless the compulsory health insurance scheme is introduced.
