Congrats, Heno!: Armenia midfielder named top post-Soviet soccer player in May

A leading Russian sport newspaper has recognized Armenia and Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan as the top soccer player in the entire former Soviet space in May.

The Sport-Express newspaper said its polls among readers and journalists in the 15 former Soviet republics showed the 23-year-old Armenian outdoing even Russia and Zenit St. Petersburg forward Alexander Kerzhakov, who was admittedly in great form ahead of the Euro 2012 finals.

In spring Mkhitaryan became the champion of Ukraine and winner of the Cup with his club Shakhtar where he distinguished himself with solid performance and goals. Earlier, he was also voted by Shakhtar fans as the team's best player of the season.
