Armenia slams Azerbaijan at Earth summit over military buildup

Armenia has accused Azerbaijan of posing a threat to regional security and progress at a United Nations conference on sustainable development Rio+20 that opened in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 20.

UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon, heads of governments and leading organizations from around the globe are attending the event.

Addressing the conference, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan reaffirmed the nation's strong will "to promote and support the initiatives aimed at transforming challenges into opportunities both at global and regional levels."

Nalbandyan said Armenia was engaged in a number of regional partnership structures, but from the perspective of sustainable development the South Caucasus region remained divided and unstable.
