Armenian opposition bloc stages first rally after picking parliament mandates

Armenia's main opposition bloc held on Tuesday its first public rally after taking seats in the National Assembly following last month's legislative polls.

The Armenian National Congress (ANC), which regularly staged demonstrations in Yerevan after the failed attempt of its leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan to win presidency in Armenia in February 2008, said it would continue to call for mass public demonstrations despite having a faction in the new Armenian parliament.

The bloc won only seven seats in the new 131-member legislature formed after the May 6 elections swept by the ruling Republican Party of President Serzh Sargsyan amid opposition claims of mass fraud and vote buying.
