Violence at ACP: Teghut residents angered following alleged assault by security guards

Five residents of Teghut village, Lori province, were beaten following a quarrel on Monday evening that is said to have involved security guards at the Armenian Copper Programme Company (ACP). ACP has been a long-standing target of controversy, as environmentalists have protested expansion of the mining company. It is not known whether Monday's incident was in any way related.

Villagers say that the young men were beaten by guards that included security service head Samvel Davtyan. According to village head Harutyun Meliksetyan one man's leg was broken and he was transferred to Yerevan for medical treatment.
