Pulpit Politics?: Mixed messages on Holy Saturday

Saturday night before Easter I went to church with my family to pray and bring back home a lit candle that symbolizes the light of God.

At Saint Zoravor Astvatsatsin Church, downtown Yerevan, we stood surrounded, or rather squeezed among hundreds of people trying to make their way inside the church.

Some waited patiently; some pushed through the crowd. Some were teasing a friend that she was going to faint because of not eating for too long, as we all waited for the Great Lent to be ended. Some ladies near me discussed which ring looked better – the one all covered with diamonds or a half-covered one not to scratch the skin. "Don't judge" I told myself for the hundredth time and tried to concentrate on the reasons that had brought me there…
