President Serzh Sargsyan, leader of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), urged residents of Yerevan's Shengavit district to cast their votes in favor of a local candidate affiliated with a rival party in the May 6 parliamentary elections.
Addressing a rally held in Garegin Nzhdeh Square on Thursday as part of the RPA continuing election campaign Sargsyan said the party did not have its own candidate in one of several electoral districts covering Shengavit and therefore endorsed Grigor Margaryan, who, even though is a current member of the RPA parliamentary faction, is seeking reelection from the same constituency as a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party, one of the main rivals of the RPA.
