Monument to Armenian musician destroyed in Turkey

A monument to Onno Tunc, a Turkish-Armenian musician killed in an air crash in 1996, has been completely destroyed.

According to the Turkish newspaper Akcam, the statue erected in the city of Yalova ten years ago was periodically attacked. It was leveled to the ground by unknown individuals 15 days ago.

“Onno Tunc’s family consulted with them and decided to build ‘a better a more modern monument’ in a fortnight,” said the mayor of Yalova, Yakup Kocal.

The ethnic Armenian musician, who enjoyed a wide popularity in Turkey, died in a plane crash in the vicinities of the city. He was 48.
