Istanbul commemorates Armenian soldier

Istanbul hosted today a protest rally in commemoration of Sevak Shahin Balikci, the Armenian soldier who was killed by a fellow servicemen in the Turkish gendermerie’s military unit on April 24 last year.

A crowd headed by Balikci’s parents marched to the city’s Taksim square from the Galatasaray district in the afternoon. They held a press conference there to voice their anger against the court’s failure to punish the killer.

“My only desire is to see justice take its course. My son was killed in a minute, but the culprit has not been detained although a year has passed. If this is justice, I have nothing else to say,” Sevak’s mother, Ani Balikci, said.
