After his visit to Tunisia, Turkish President Abdullah Gul spoke of the Istanbul protests dedicated to the “Khojalu genocide”.
Speaking to reporters after his return, Gul praised the Turkish demonstrators’ move, noting however that their slogans were shameful for a country like Turkey.
“The slogans were shameful and insulting. That does not suit Turkey. The posters should not have been there. They were ugly. Those posters unfortunately undermined the value and impact of the demonstration,” he said.
Gul further addressed the situation of the more than 100 jailed reporters in the country (, adding that their existence negatively affects the Turkey’s image.
