Over 1,000 nominees to contest for 131 seats in parliament

More than 1,000 candidates have nominated themselves for the 131 seats in the National Assembly.

All in all, representatives of nine political forces – the Armenian National Congress (ANC), the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Prosperous Armenia, the Rule of Law party, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation- Dashnakstutyun (ARF-D), Heritage, the Democratic Party of Armenia and the United Armenians party – are running for election on May 6.

As for the single-mandate candidates, there number in the 41 constituencies of Armenia is 176. Some 38 of them are members of the opposition alliance Armenian National Congress, while 42 are listed on the ruling Republican Party’s ballot. Fifteen contenders are backed by the coalition Prosperous Armenia party (PAP), 11 – by the Rule of Law party, eight – by Heritage and nine by ARF-D. Three political forces representing the ANC – the Democratic Motherland, the Armenian Labor Socialist Party and the Marxist Party – have proposed only one candidate.
