Haykakan Zhamanak editor-in-chief files candidacy

Nikol Pashinyan, the editor-in-chief of the opposition-run newspaper Haykakan Zhamanak, is going to run for parliament from a single member constituency.

Just minutes ago, the activist officially submitted his nomination in constituency No. 7 .

Pashinyan, who is going to represent the opposition alliance Armenian National Congress (ANC) in the May 6 parliamentary election, said he is going to issue a statement in this connection later.

His contenders in the same constituency are MP Samvel Alexanyan, and Vardan Vardanyan. None of the candidates have party affiliation.

Pashinyan was jailed after the March 2008 post-electoral turmoil that left at least ten people dead and a number of others wounded in capital Yerevan. He was released from prison in May 2011.
