Eurovision not a political contest - Mammadyarov

Eurovision should not spur political speculations, especially in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister has said.

Elmar Mammadyarov made the statement in an interview with to the German publication Welt Kompakt. He said particularly that he does not understand the people who look for a political pretext behind a cultural event.

“It is first of all a cultural rather than a political event,” he said.

Mammadyarov told the German publication the he is happy Azwerbaijani is hosting the contest this year. He added that the country largely abides by the principles of democratization, human rights and rule of law.  Read more... (147 words)
