Communist leader accuses opposition of March 1 tragedy

The first secretary of the Armenian Communist Party, Ruben Tovmasyan, accuses the opposition of the March 2008 post-electoral turmoil that left 10 people dead in capital Yerevan.

At a news conference on Friday, the Communist leader laid the entire blame for the tragic events on first the president and current leader of the opposition Armenian National Congress, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, and other opposition figures.

Tovmasyan said they are determined to run for parliament this year and are going to struggle alone with their ideologists.

Speaking of social polls, he said he is skeptical about those surveys that make no mention of Communist Party. Tovmasyan noted that their own survey revealed that 67 out of 550 respondents were ready to ballot in their favor.
