Our Man in Moscow: Opposition party urges Russian compatriots to vote Putin (and PM Sargsyan agrees)

While clamour over the opening of "Putin clubs" in Armenia continues, a new expression of "Putin-worship" emerged this week to great disappointment and sharp criticism of not only politicians but also civil society activists.

The Social-Democrat Hunchakian party from the main opposition Armenian National Congress, released a statement on Tuesday calling upon Russia-based Armenians (who have citizenship of that country) to vote for presidential candidate Vladimir Putin, because "he is the person who pulled the country out of the abyss of destruction".

A long and pompous statement full of praise for the country created by Putin, has a most surprising finale:
"Compatriots, we are pleading and urging you to add your voice to the voice of real patriot Russians, who will vote for Vladimir Putin.
