NA Vote: “No=?UTF-8?B?4oCdIA==?=to majoritarian system

The National Assembly of Armenia on Wednesday rejected the bill initiated by opposition Heritage and Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF, Dashnaktsutyun) parties, which suggested removing the majoritarian system of voting from the Election Code and passing to a 100-percent proportional system of parliamentary representation.

Thirty lawmakers voted for the bill; besides the parliamentary opposition, some members of the ruling coalition's junior partner Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) were among them; 56 lawmakers voted against the bill, while the remaining 47 parliament seats were empty.

Before the vote Styopa Safaryan and Larisa Alaverdyan from Heritage Party urged all lawmakers present at the National Assembly hall to vote for the bill. However, as on Tuesday Republican lawmaker Rafik Petrosyan stated, when Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) is against an issue, nothing can be changed then.
