The number of poor in Armenia has increased in the past two years, however, more than half of people who are even officially considered to be poor, do not perceive themselves as poverty-stricken.
"The Social Picture of Armenia and Poverty" research work by the National Statistical Service published last week, shows that in 2010 as compared to 2008, half of Armenia's population is "poor", "very poor" or "extremely poor".
"About 270,000 people have become poor over the past two years, reaching 1.2 million in 2010; about 290,000 people within the same period have become very poor, making the number of the very poor 694,000. Only within two years 46,000 people have become extremely poor, making the number of the extremely poor 98,000 in 2010," the National Statistical Service states.
