WHO to declare Armenia malaria-free zone

April 25 marks the World Malaria Day, while the World Health Organization (WHO) is taking measures to declare Armenia a malaria-free zone.

According to the Ministry of Health, Armenia is the first country in the region to eliminate locally acquired malaria cases. Under internationally accepted procedures, that fact is subject to certification by WHO.

The Armenian government had earlier approved the 2006-10 anti-malaria program. Ever since no locally acquired malaria cases have been recorded n the country.
