Weekend in sport: Armenian athletes lift, wrestle and dribble it

Armenia saw its weightlifters and hand-to-hand fighters win medals at international competitions at the end of last week as well as footballers in domestic league completing another day of their local rivalry.

On Sunday, the last day of the 2011 European Weightlifting Championships in Kazan, Russia, Hripsime Khurshudyan of Armenia won a silver medal with a steady performance in her +75kg weight division, yielding the top position to Russian Tatyana Kashirina who set a world record on her unimpeded way to the European title.

Khurshudyan's medal was an addition to the collection of two silver and one bronze medals earlier won by Armenian weightlifters at the championships (in both men's and women's competitions). Team Armenia placed fifth in the nations' standings, behind Russia, Turkey, Moldova and Belarus (the last two won one goal medal each, while Armenia didn’t).
