Environmentalists in Armenia say the level of noise in the capital is above normal levels, which affects both humans and the environment.
The loud noise, experts say, is caused by the traffic, construction and the high volume of music coming from different parts of the capital.
A government decree defines the day-time permissible level of noise in Yerevan as up to 70 decibels, and up to 6 during the night.
"To form an idea one can take a walk around the Circular park [downtown Yerevan] – loud music from huge speakers of cafes flanking the park trying to out-scream one another, and all together turning into an ugly cacophony. Whereas, a park is a recreational zone meant for people to be able to rest," says environmentalist Karine Danielyan, head of the Association for Sustainable Human Development NGO.
