A former Soviet Union and European boxing champion and opposition activist Samson Khachatryan has been released from the courtroom.
The spokesperson for former Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Arman Musinyan told Tert.am that the court sentenced him to one year in prison but defined a probation period and released him immediately from the courtroom.
Samson Khachatryan was being tried at the Court of First Instance at Yerevan’s Nork-Marash administrative districts.
Arrested on March 1 during a rally by the opposition Armenian National Congress, he was accused of “exerting violence against a representative of law-enforcement body”.
The court found him guilty in the charges brought against him, but Khachatryan would not plead guilty.
