Ombudsman addresses freedom of media

The reforms introduced to Armenia’s “Law on Television and Radio” in 2010 related to digital airing did not secure desirable results, Armenia’s human rights defender has said.

In a statement published on the website of Armenia’s Human Rights Office, Karen Andreasyan said that due to those reforms some of the existing TV stations were shut down as they did not receive airing licenses.

This, according to him, means that the expectations of some citizens did not come true.

Further, Karen Andreasyan mentioned that the he has convened a working group to prepare a package of amendments to the “Law on Television and Radio” which will be discussed at forum on freedom of media to be held on April 29.
