Experts: Eased procedure on lands usage will spell losses for environment

The government explains the process of changing the significance of lands designed for usage of the earth's crust by the prospect of recovering the scattered funds of the state budget; however, environmentalists are worried that by this decision many hectares of lands of community significance will simply be destroyed.

At the Thursday session the Government of Armenia amended the decision on "Approving the procedure of alienation of arable lands which are state and community property, as well as the right to its building and usage."

According to the government's examination, about 70 percent of the lands of almost 500 mines in Armenia are not designed for industry, production or earth's crust usage, but are rather of agricultural significance.
