Experts debate over Genocide issue ahead of April 24

Every year, ahead of April 24 Turkey suffers days of nightmare; but this year, pro-Armenian forces are more passive, an Armenian expert has said.

Turkish studies specialist Hakob Chakryan made the statement on Monday at a news conference devoted to the 96th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. He said the Turkish government and embassies spend tremendous amounts to prevent the term ‘genocide” from being used.

Speaking of the Genocide Commemoration Evening organized by US Congressmen Robert Menendez, Adam Schiff and others, he said President Obama’s failure to use the term was addressed at the event though he didn’t consider labeling the president the right thing.

“Even if Obama wouldn’t say ['genocide'], we should have a sense of proportion not to use frivolous phrases,” he said.
