Boxing: “1915=?UTF-8?B?4oCdIA==?=belt wearing Darchinyan gets win in the ring

In an IBO bantamweight championship clash, Armenian prizefighter Vic Darchinyan (36-3-1, 27KOs) won a five round technical unanimous decision over Colombian Yonnhy Perez (20-2-1, 14KOs) in a fight in Los Angeles on the eve of April 24 – Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.

The bout ended early due to an accidental clash of heads, with all three judges having it 50-44 for Darchinyan. After his win, the veteran Armenian fighter highlighted the significance of the date by telling the story of the Armenian Genocide in his winning interview.

During the fight Darchinyan wore a belt with the inscription "1915" – the year of the inception of mass killings and deportations of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire that eventually left 1.5 million Ottoman Armenians dead.
