On Sunday the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, saw another unauthorized opposition rally organized for the fourth time within two months by the local alliance of opposition parties and civic activists called the Public Chamber. Police detained as many as 64 activists during the rally in an attempt to put off further protests, with the country's authorities stating that disruption of stability in Azerbaijan will only play into the hands of Armenians.
"Attempts by radical oppositionists to stage unsanctioned rallies rather pursue the goal of disrupting stability," stated Ali Ahmedov, the executive secretary of the ruling Yeni Azerbaycan (New Azerbaijan) Party.
