Armenian Opposition denied access to Freedom Square

The Yerevan Municipality has rejected a bid by opposition to sanction a rally on Freedom Square, pointing to other public events to be held at the venue on the same date.

The application was filed by the Executive Secretary of the Pan-Armenian National Movement party, Vahagn Hayotsyan, who asked permission for a rally scheduled on May 4.

In a notification published on its website the Yerevan Municipality’s substantiated the decision by the fact that there is another public event at the venue on the same date.

The Yerevan Municipality has repeatedly refused all the applications by the opposition to sanction it a rally on Freedom Square.
