Armenia-Russia: Centuries-old friendship and a brand-new jet

Yerevan has hosted the first Armenian-Russian Interregional Forum "Towards New Achievements of Interregional Cooperation in Russo-Armenian Allied Relations", with 24 bilateral documents already signed as part of this event.

The topic of relations between Armenia and Russia is not leaving the front pages of the Armenian press these days, and quite a few politicians and experts have talked about the need to review these relationships and build new ones – this time on a more equal footing.

The presence of a Russian military base in Armenia and the handover of nearly all major infrastructure facilities (such as the natural gas main, electricity networks, communications, the railway, etc.) to Russian companies are, on the one hand, considered as the consequence of Russia's imperial expansion, and, on the other, as a payment that Armenia surrounded by unfriendly states has to make for having a strong ally like Moscow.
