The US remains committed to the Armenia-Turkey rapprochement, US Assistant Secretary Philip Crowley said at a daily briefing today, asked to comment about the ratification of the Armenia-Turkey Protocols almost after a year of their historical signing in Zurich.
“We remain committed to resolving these issues. It was something that Secretary Clinton discussed last month at the UN with a wide range of leaders, and we remain committed to it,” said he.
It comes after Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan – in an op-ed published in The Wall Street Journal – harshly criticized Turkey for backtracking on its pledge to ratify the Protocols and for linking it to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
