New concept set to ease overcrowding in Yerevan

The Armenian Government approved Thursday a concept for redesigning the smaller center of Yerevan.
Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, a deputy minister of urban development, Ruzanna Alavedyan, said the document proposes mechanisms for easing the overpopulation problem In the capital city and directing more activities to different other administrative districts.
Alaverdyan said the measure could have been elaborated earlier, adding that it isn't now too late to impose certain restrictions.
"We soberly evaluate the situation, wishing to make the law detailed enough to rule out ambiguities. The main idea is this – any investment project proposing a redesigning has to build on planned documents which define criteria," she said.
The deputy minister added that the new law will propose stricter and clearer regulatory measures. She noted in the meantime that the prime minister has given them six months for developing the draft and submitting it to the National Assembly.
